Another QNX Image - QNX Audrey Platform - Audrey on Steroids
Coming from original Audrey these images contain up to over 200 modifications each,
such as hacks, app installs, lib installs, dll installs, new configs and tweaks. Describing these mods would require
a minimum of 5000 lines of text.
Which image you use has to do with your needs for Audrey. All images are stable
and reliable. Small fixes are available in my Audrey Repository for all
my image versions.
While Another QNX Image" is most commonly used, QNX Audrey Platform with QNX USB support is a must for the installation of USB
devices that are not supported by original Audrey. All QNX 6.1 supported devices can be
successfully installed on V.USB1-1 too. For more information about V.USB1-1, click
here. Both have the same ease of use for ethernet and modem users, while
all original Audrey supported hardware will work "out of the box".
Both versions are indentical in structure, performance and ease of use, while USB1-1 is fully prepared
for an upgrade to new QNX versions as soon as they become available. Datebook,
AddressBook and Channels are deleted. DateBook and AddresBook users will find "Audrey on Steroids" their only choice,
since the other 2 images don't support Palm syncing.
"Audrey on Steroids" is basically the same as original Audrey with some added
features: new desktop, Shelf menu, Editor, vncviewer, Led Control, keyboards, Shut Down
and more. Original Audrey apps work with buttons, Shelf has its own apps and wm pop-up menu
exits kojak apps and does some other things. Channels are deleted.
The problems with MP3 playing from a share are resolved by ghansah by
changing the priority and starting original phjuke as follows: nice -n-5 phjuke (no space
between -n-5).
The nice utility is included in V.USB1-1 and you can download nice from my Audrey
Repository for V.4-0. I recommend you download davinci27's new phjuke for use with all platforms.
What's in "QNX Audrey Platform" with QNX USB Support V.1-1
The most versatile QNX Audrey platform currently available and highly customizable for demanding users as an extra.
For the rest this image is identical in setup, looks and ease of use as "Another QNX
Image" V.4-0 with the exact same apps installed. See V.4-0 for a full description of the installed apps
Regular storage space available 1.6 megs and 3.8 megs in /tmp
QNX 6.1 network setup installed
QNX 6.1 USB setup installed. All QNX supported USB devices are supported with "out of the box" support for klsi nics, Microsoft and MAC mice, keyboards and standard Audrey Canon printers
Installed already are nice and renice to set and change priorities of running apps
Advanced users can customize Audrey now with available downloads in my Audrey Repository such as network setups for klsi, pegasus, tiny or full tcpip stack, ppoed, network utilities, Spooler Ctrl and more
Click here for version USB1-1 manual. All original Audrey hardware is supported "out of the box"
This image allows you to use Audrey as a stand alone internet
appliance with more possibilties we ever thought possible when we took Audrey
new out of the box. And If you have a LAN share available you have a nice platform to do
more customizing yourself and add apps from a share. When a new QNX version becomes available I will update this USB1-1 version for use with more supported USB devices. Next step will be to hook up a USB storage device with Audrey.
What's in "Audrey on Steroids" V.1-1
Identical in structure as original Audrey, but with the same looks as my other images and as a platform highly customizable from my Audrey Repository
Regular storage space available 2.7 megs and 4 megs in /tmp
new intro that blends in with the desktop thanks to Mike
new shelf windows style resolving all network problems some users had
new files compressed, Browser removed, more storage space available
voyager starts minimized in shelf at boot, needed for mail
set your prefered home page in voyager Edit/Preferences/Information. At least
temporarely I suggest http://www.prins.net/audrey/downloads.html (my Audrey Repository). When not in use run voyager minimized in shelf at all times to prevent the famous blue screen in mail
audio plugins in voyager installed
apps open with focus, colors now yellow active, blue inactive
time set properly in Audrey and shelf
apps included: Mail, Datebook, AddressBook, Palm Sync, ActionPalette, Terminal, Voyager, Editor, Mixer, Picture Frame, Paint, Neutrino Sin!, Shelf Cfg, Led On, Blink, Off, Share, Reboot, Shutdown, keyboards and vncviewer. Buttons, Shelf and wm pop-up menu (press Paste - Enter) work together to handle all apps
customize your Audrey now with available downloads in my Audrey Repository such as MP3 playing with MediaPlayer or MP3 Player, RealPlayer, CallerID, AlarmClock, Calculator, Image Viewer, SoundRecorder and Snapshot
no manual necessary because for the rest it's still good old orginal Audrey
Now "Audrey on Steroids" has the exact same look and feel of all my images and
works like a charm, not any different from original Audrey with Mail, Datebook,
Addressbook, Palm Sync, ActionPalette, voyager plus various shelf apps standard and highly customizable to your liking from my Audrey Repository.
What's new in "Another QNX Image" V.4-0
Identical in structure and looks as V.USB1-1, but without additional QNX USB support
Regular storage space available 2 megs and 3.8 in /tmp
Audrey starts with a new intro that blends in with the desktop thanks to Mike
ActionPalette is deleted completely and replaced by 3 small scripts. No editing needed
You can use Network Cfg to configure your ethernet nic for a fixed IP. No need to do anything for dhcp
Modem users press a shelf button twice and are all set after a Reboot
Dialer is highly configurable by clicking "Edit" and Network Cfg pops up. Choose Advanced Options if needed
New "windows style" shelf that resolves network problems thanks to Sean_F
Buttons are remapped, apps open full screen and some more litle stuff
All original Audrey hardware supported out of the box
Some minor other changes and tweaks, including a new users manual that you can download for review here.
customize your Audrey now with downloads in my Audrey Repository when they become available
This update makes "Another QNX Image" identical in structure to the USB1-1 image.
MP3 playing works like a charm over HTTP and with phjuke from a share, thanks to the
nice utiluty. For any image I recommend not to autostart a share. Use a share
only when needed instead as davinci27's new phjuke does now.
What you get also with V.4-0
Fast clean boot without autostart for mail and voyager
No more "Setting the Date and Time from the Internet" at boot. Ethernet users can auto start this feature
A new look and feel for the desktop and a fast clean boot
Audrey will be easily configurable for individual users
Buttons still work for eMail, Set Date & Time, Voyager, FileManager and Editor
6 expandable shelves menu with more entries, a total of around 25 in 6 groups
plus Terminal and Shutdown
I added phMP3 as a better MP3 player that works in tandem with Playlist Maker
In wm pop-up menu I added "Led On", "Led Blink" and "Led Off"
I added "Shutdown" in shelf, it does exactly that, it's other features aren't implemented
Use "Shut Down" only and don't try to reboot. "Reboot" is another menu item in shelf and wm pop-up menu
Never unplug your live Audrey again without using Shut Down.
For the rest the image is the same as earlier versions and DateBook, AddressBook and
Channels are not available.
This image allows you to use Audrey as a stand alone internet
appliance with more possibilties we ever thought possible when we took Audrey
new out of the box. And If you have a LAN share available you have a nice platform to do
more customizing yourself and add apps from a share.
